If you prefer to have the Department of Revenue submit your Brand Label Registration, read the information below, and click "Next." This form cannot be submitted electroniclly. Alcohol Brand Registration and Reporting Information
Initial Brand Label Fees:
- Wines* - $25.00
- Malt & Cereal Beverages - $25.00
- Distilled Spirits, Whiskeys, Gin, Rum, Brandy, Vodka, Alcoholic Cordials, Liqueurs, etc - $50.00
Additional Brand-Products Labels Fees:
- Wines* - $17.50
- Malt & Cereal Beverages - $25.00
- Distilled Spirits, Whiskeys, Gin, Rum, Brandy, Vodka, Alcoholic Cordials, Liqueurs, etc - $50.00
* The law provides for a reduced registration fee when two or more brand labels of the same class of wine are registered by the applicant. Duplicate brand labels must be provided with this application.
Attachments
In order to market alcoholic beverage products in the State of South Dakota, you must be approved by the United States Department of the Treasury, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. Once approved by the United States Department of Treasury, you must register your company with the State of South Dakota. The following items must be provided when you submit your registration for approval:
- A copy of the product’s Federal Label Approvals
- A copy of the product’s chemical analysis (if available)
- Duplicate sets of labels for each brand product registered
- Application for brand registration approved (done annually)
- Proper brand registration fee attached to the registration application
- Affidavit from the registered brand owners for brand distribution authority if the brand registration applicant is not the owner thereof (NOTE: South Dakota requires that wholesalers receive alcoholic beverages only from the brand owner or authorized agent.)
Brewers, Beer Suppliers, Distilled Spirits, Wine, and Cider Suppliers
All brewers, beer suppliers, distilled spirits, wine, and cider suppliers are required to submit a monthly Excel spreadsheet detailing their sales and samples sold to South Dakota Wholesalers.
State Liquor Tax Collection
Liquor taxes in South Dakota are collected at the wholesale level. The tax is assessed when imported alcoholic beverages are received by a licensed wholesaler.
